When Captain Kidd was hung at our favourite London watering hole, now The Captain Kidd pub even in death, he managed to leave further intrigue in his wake. Once the death sentence had been bestowed upon his head, his wife was allowed to see him. It was rumoured that during their last meeting, Kidd handed his wife a piece of paper on which the following was written: 44106818
One website claims that this card has been preserved with the record of the trial (http://www.fishermensvoice.com/archives ... arney.html
So, what could these numbers possibly mean? Could they be the co-ordinates to a primitive safety deposit box, the latitude and longitude pointing to his hidden treasure, or a more cryptic code?
The aforementioned website states that the latitude and longitude coordinates bring one to Deer Isle - a location which later became the basis for a story of Captain Kidd’s treasure written in 1889. Franklin Head claims Kidd’s treasure was found on Deer Isle by Jacob Astor and that it was the basis of the Astor fortunes....but could there be a link to our favourite island?!
I thought it might be worth starting a thread on this strange number, seeing we have quite a few people on here who enjoy looking into such patterns for clues and anomalies.
