Hello there!

Postby Ohigan on Sat Dec 13, 2008 5:51 pm

Greetings from the United States(Toledo, OH)! I just joined the forum this morning and wanted to say hello to everyone.

I have been intrigued by this tale of buried treasure for years. I first encountered this "money pit" story years ago when the History Channel did a show on lost pirate treasures. I have tried searching for the location on Google, but since it had been years since the show the only detail I could recall was that it was believed pirates booby trapped this well to flood if an attempt was made to retrieve the treasure. I didn't get anywhere with the search. Well, last night I just happened to find this very story while looking through a book published in 70's by the National Geographic Society titled Undersea Treasures. I was pretty excited to find the story and quickly jumped on the Internet to do some research. I am looking forward to learning more about this story and hopefully I will be able to visit the site some day.

Ohigan,

Super pleased to offer you a grand hello and welcome to Jo's forum.

The story of Oak Island is known throughout the world and those of us who follow mystery really like to share what we know and wait for more knowledge all the time. In 2009, with any luck at all, the treasure hunting syndicate should be actively treasure hunting again and we all look forward to that.

I hope you enjoy your time here. We have a member of the Oak Island Tourism Society from Cleveland Ohio.

Hello Ohigan and welcome to our little piece of the internet!

Great to have you on the forum and looking forward to hearing your thoughts on Oak Island.

I'd love to hear more about the Undersea Treasures book you mention - any chance of scanning the pages. Don't worry if not, I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask! We're always excited to read a new portrayal of the mystery you see!

Anyway, looking forward to talking online and any questions, please don't be afraid to ask.

Best wishes,

Jo

Jo, Sorry for the loooooong delay in responding to your request for information on the National Geographic article on Oak Island. I had my hands full with the christmas holiday as well as moving to Texas back in January. However, I did manage to scan the article and the pictures from the book before packing up. When I attempted to upload to a forum posting it was rejected because the files were too large and didn't have the time to try to make them smaller. If you are interested in receiving these files, via email, I would be more than happy to send them to you. It may take a little time because the computer I scanned them to remains unpacked. Just let me know where to send them!
