Oak Island 1885

Postby n4n224ccw on Wed Aug 28, 2013 2:12 am

I've been lucky enough to come across a huge collection of Oak Island material which is all new to me. This comes from a direct descendant of John Smith with letters dating to the 1820s until 1909 (as far as I can tell thus far).

Attached is a photo dated 1885 and appears to be taken from Apple Island.

Enjoy

That's a neat photo, n4n.

I assume that it was taken just before the Oak Island Treasure Company's assault on the island (with Blair, Tupper et al), and that the cleared area between the row of umbrella-topped oaks (on the left) and the drumlin (on the right) is where they were digging at the time.

Thanks for finding it and sending.

Cheers,

D'Arcy

D'Arcy,

Attached are two more magnified but from a black and white photo further into the box. There is some good information to be found in this photo, specifically NE corner of the island.
