Far be it from me to rub it in, so I will. Here is the bay I know you are very familiar with a few days later and the water a little calmer. There were hundreds, maybe thousands of sea birds between here and Frog Island all cackling and quacking at the same time, sort of sounded like the rum room on Saturday night.

Great photos Danny, thank you for sharing them with the rest of us who aren't lucky enough to be close to Oak Island. It looks really cold in the photos - was it? What were you doing up so early? Don't tell me, does it relate to all the contraband rum you are moving between islands?

Jo,

It looks really cold in the photos - was it?

Not really, in fact, as the morning wore on, it got warmer and very pleasant too.

What were you doing up so early? Don't tell me, does it relate to all the contraband rum you are moving between islands?

Yes, between you and I, and for God sake don't tell the government, we were running some rum. Between runs of rum, we were also dipping Scallops (note the long handled dip net on the last photo) a real Lunenburg County rite of passage. We did not find many Scallops around Oak Island, but hit a small pocket or two in other places.

We also assisted a Loon that was in some sort of distress right on the shore, bobbing on the waves up against the rocks, just below the Triton Shaft at Oak Island. Don't tell anyone, but we made an unauthorized landing on the beach and helped get the Loon to deeper water where he immediately evacuated his bowels and swam away.....weird. I think he may have been feeding off Birch Island earlier and got into some bad fish. The last time we saw him, he was south of the Coffer Dam, under his own power and seemed just fine.

Keeled_over,

Someday, when you have a house like this overlooking St John Harbour, you can eat all the Dulse, ginger ale and fresh Scallops you like. Throw in a little 'pine, a few Bay of Fundy Lobsters and some Ganong chocolate for desert and VIOLA, you can say you have arrived.

This little tar paper shack belongs to the guy who owns Clearwater Fine Foods. I would suggest he did OK for himself, whaddah you think?.
