Sweden did have a colony in North America, along with all of the other European 'powers'. And the French, and the Acadians, used wood to build dykes which later was seized when the English invaders smashed the dykes and re-used the wood. So, one cannot depend on which piece of metal or wood in which location is from which source to begin with when applying dating sequences to any given locale involving wood or small bits of mobile metal objects.

Swedish steel

Many things to be found on ships of the centuries before modern development of Nova Scotia would have come from around the world, especially, pirate vessels. They stole everything they could get their grubby hands on. Historians tell us that ships built in England for example, would be outfitted with English materials, Spanish ships with Sanish materials and so on. The chain found in 10X was from an unknown origin. The analysis of the chain found in Borehole 10X only told what the steel structure could offer.

You are so correct about the French Acadiens using wood, but only some wood. Most of the dykes you speak of were earthen dams.

Remind me where were the "Swedish colonies" were in North America?

HISTORY LESSON

Postby Tank04 on Wed Aug 11, 2004 6:18 pm

**,

You may have lost your pass, but your on line name is still easy to remember and to type in.

Thank you for the history lesson. I knew there was a Dutch presence in the New York area, but Sweden?, who knew. It is always good to get diferent perspectives to broaden one's understanding of pre 17th century North America.

Just to get this up to the top, this was my earlier sign in name. Since I had to re-do everything again, I'll just say Bill Gates Sucks...MSN more useless daily...LOL

BI63,

I think that JL3 is referring to the very first posting in this tread which was posted by "JodyLane" (the 1st!). :)
