Recent problems with forum software

Postby Jo on Fri Feb 11, 2011 9:26 am

Hi all – I’m afraid there was a problem with the forum which occurred earlier this week. You may have noticed that we lost the style sheet and things were not being displayed as they should be. Luckily the hosting company were able to restore the site from their collection of backups, but for this reason, one or two posts may have gone awry as content is loaded retrospectively. The problem has been solved and I have their assurance this should not happen again. I thought I would explain in case some of you spotted that some of your posts had vanished.

Jo;

Thanks for the heads-up on this. I myself haven't encountered any problems with this since venturing back this past week, but what I did notice is that the volume of posts has dropped off significantly since I was last active here in the summer. It's a far quieter place than I remember finding eight years ago. Hopefully, traffic will pick up once again as spring nears and hopefully, the resumption of activities on Oak Island itself.

kind regards,

Proc

Hi Procutus, thanks for your message, and glad that everything is now running properly. If any of you notice the Forum displaying in a strange way, please do email me and I can investigate the problem - oakislandtreasure@gmail.com

The Forum always tends to take a seasonal dip around this time of year, which as you say, may be due to lack of activity on the island. Despite the number of posts diminishing here, we are still seeing a regular increase in traffic month on month, and I'm guessing with many people using this Forum as more of a research database. More of the socialising seems to be taking place on our Facebook group, probably due to the fact people can manage their online interests and friends all in one place.

Interestingly, I can always tell when a documentary has aired in the States or Canada as it is followed by a flurry of emails and new members to the Facebook group. Although activity may be slow on here, my experience is that interest in Oak Island is certainly increasing, just through different channels, which can only be a good thing.
